Yulisa Carhuallocllo Arévalo grew up learning about coffee in El Corazón, a small community in Peru’s northern Cajamarca region. Her father, Efraín Carhuallocllo Salvador, began planting his farm “El Cerro” in 2005, gradually expanding his Caturra plots with training and technical support from the Cenfrocafé cooperative. In 2017, his coffee placed second at Peru’s first Cup of Excellence. Yulisa gained valuable experience in both production and the assessment of quality by working with her father.
She has since earned recognition under her own name, notably for her Gesha lots. She won the Best of Cajamarca specialty coffee competition in 2023, and returned to take first place again in October 2025 with an impressive score of 90.25. Held in Jaén, the event brings together producers and buyers from Peru and overseas, creating opportunities for the region’s coffees to reach new markets.
This Gesha undergoes a 72-hour dry fermentation in tanks as part of its washed processing. No water is added during fermentation; the fruit provides the moisture needed for microbial activity.
