Miguel Lopez has been passionate about coffee since he was a child. Much of this passion came from watching his father work the land. As a young adult, he spent years working for a cooperative where he learnt about the industry and tasted different coffees. Finally, Miguel decided he was ready to establish his own farm. He managed to source some Gesha seeds directly from Panama. The early days were difficult; these seeds only yielded seven productive plants. Unwavering in his determination, Miguel took seeds from these seven plants and planted one hectare of Gesha.
Now a renowned and respected producer, Miguel continues to be involved in cupping and quality control at a local cooperative. He uses these skills to shape his own coffee production, favouring simple, high-quality washed processing with limited fermentation. This approach explains the clear, bright cup that he has created. After processing and drying, he considers a rest of at least a month essential before any roasting or cupping, allowing the green coffee to open up and present its full character.
