Gotiti Washed, Ethiopia
The white florals in this cup are immediate and expressive, carried by a clean, tea-like body and subtle eucalyptus finish.
The role of the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre in shaping Ethiopian coffee is fascinating. Since the 1960s, they have employed breeders to travel to smallholder farms across Ethiopia in search of “elite mother trees” that display desirable characteristics, such as cup quality, yield and disease resistance. These trees are then assigned a number for identification; for example, the 7454 varietal found in this coffee is a direct descent of the 54th “elite mother tree” identified in 1974.
