A true saviour of the Guji zone and a pioneering for in its modern coffee-history, Ato Tesfaye Bekele was born to coffee farming but initially moved away from the culture into study, eventually working in Natural Resource and Environmental Protection for the Ethiopian government.

After bushfires levelled huge swathes of the region's forests from 1997 to 1999, Tesfaye was tasked with rebuilding and finding new ways to conserve the area. Locals returned to plant traditional crops, however, Tesfaye proposed coffee trees to enhance diversity for the region.

After distributing seedlings, people asked how long it would take for plants to show yields. With the answer of 'four or five years' many seedlings were returned by the farmers. Though disappointed, Tesfaye did not lose faith, reserving land and beginning a government-backed seedling nursery.

After finding it hard to find people to care for the project, Tesfaye left his government position to take over the task and return to coffee farming. After the first harvest the inspired community returned to him, requesting seedlings and help in beginning their own farms.

For variable-temperature capsule machines (Opal/Morning Machine) we advise brewing at a medium-temperature setting for optimal cup results.
